William Nicholson Hall in the 1950’s

We are a traditional family run Nursery Centre established in 1921 by William Nicholson Hall. Since our early years we have grown many of our own plants and specialised in Dahlias and Chrysanthemums. Our first catalogue of these wonderful and increasingly popular flowers was first produced in 1931. Since then we have gone from strength to strength, growing almost 150,000 Dahlia and Chrysanthemums annually sending them to customers nationally and within the rest of the EU, our Dahlia Tubers make it even further afield being sent to customers Worldwide.

At our Nursery centres at Heddon on the Wall (Near Hadrian’s Wall) and Ovington alongside the Dahlias and Chrysanthemums around 100,000 plants including shrubs, herbaceous plants, alpines and a full range of seasonal bedding plants are grown annually. Along with our home grown plants we also stock wide range of Trees, Conifers, Roses and Garden sundries.

Our aim has always been to offer top quality plants backed up by expert advice and friendly service – all with great value.

There have been many changes over the years and some of these were recorded in 1994 by Williams youngest son, my father, Stan Hall, in the potted history of the business. More recently, after celebrating his 90th  birthday he published ‘The Highs and Lows of a Nursery Man’ The history of Halls of Heddon. . . .
